About:
In 1964, desegregation was ordered throughout the United States. While much controversy ensued, especially for k12 schools, the merger of Pensacola Junior College with Washington Junior college progressed smoothly. At this time, all eleven black junior colleges in the state of Florida were merged with their white counterparts. This workshop will review the history of the development of the junior college system in Florida, the merger of these colleges with special emphasis on the process of the merger at Pensacola Junior College, and a description of the administrative/faculty changes which occurred as a result of the merger.
