About:
Meeting our students where they are in their research and writing skills while also teaching them how to think and write within our various disciplines can be challenging, especially in context of AI. This workshop offers insights into what kind of writing students are expected to perfmm across the institution and an introduction to a variety of new and customizable faculty and student resources relevant to writing. Special attention will be given to the students' critical thinking regarding discipline-specific use of AI and referencing of sources using APA 7th edition.

Whether taking advantage of a PSC library or writing lab with entire classes or encouraging individual students to go, this workshop will help faculty choose how to best use these resources. The library segment will offer updates to the Library Orientation and the new Reading Strategies workshop. In addition to discussion on what services students can expect from the Reference Desk, insights into how technology is affecting library services will be shared with focus on citation generators vs. ChatGPT and LitMaps for links between sources. The Writing Lab segment will include an overview of how the lab supports faculty instruction through the variety of services offered to their students. Insights into how best to prepare students to be fully engaged in their personal writing process and Writing Lab experience will be shared.
