About:
Zines are self- published booklets circulated on a small scale. They are created by individuals or groups to showcase creative work, to share specialized interests, or to educate readers on contemporary issues. Zines vary in format and complexity: some are hand-bound books, while others are photocopied pamphlets. The beauty of the zine is it can be anything its author wants it to be! This presentation will outline a short history of zines and discuss their artistic, rhetorical, and pedagogical value. Participants will learn about possibilities for using zines constructively both in and out of the classroom and will practice making their own miniature zine out of a single piece of paper.
