About:
With devices within their reach at all times, our students no longer need to memorize APA templates. However, they still need our guidance in inputting information when they outsource their sources and interrogating the integrity of the automated output.
This workshop offers strategies and tools for teaching referencing and citing that align with current research. We will explore practical tools and materials for disseminating the WHO, WHEN, WHAT, WHERE logic of APA 7th edition, holding students accountable for precision in applying this decision-based framework, and helping students see errors when comparing the output against template models. In turn, grading conversations shift from “I’m confused” or “the generator did it” to evidence-based correction.
We will also discuss how these resources can be curated to fit specific courses, assignments, and levels of instruction. The goal is shared language, shared standards, and shared support—so that across classrooms, the writing lab, and the library, APA truly makes writing with sources click in our students’ minds, not just on their screens.
