A 10-week course designed for an advanced adult acrylic painting class, focusing on building upon existing skills, exploring techniques, and fostering individual artistic expression.

Overall Course Goals - By the end of this course, students will:

  • Demonstrate a deeper understanding of color theory and its application in acrylics.
  • Confidently employ a wider range of acrylic painting techniques and mediums.
  • Develop a more refined sense of composition and design.
  • Explore personal artistic interests and develop a more individual style.
  • Critically analyze their own work and the work of others.

Materials:

  • Regular or Heavy body acrylic paints in a variety of Primaries and Secondaries and Earth Tones.

Brands: Liquitex, Golden, Master's Touch, Grumbacher.

  • Color wheel
  • A variety of brushes (rounds, flats, filberts in different sizes)
  • Palette knives and/or painting wedges
  • 10 -12x9 Canvas boards for classroom work
  • 10 -12x9 Stretched canvasses for homework assignments
  • Acrylic mediums (e.g., glazing medium, flow improver, retarder, texture paste)
  • Water container and spray bottle
  • Palette (disposable or reusable)
  • Paper towels or rags
  • Sketchbook and drawing materials
  • Easel
  • Apron
  • Plastic tablecloth

Supplies are used on the first night of class.
